CAT AND DOG VACCINATIONS IN LAKE ZURICH, IL

One of your biggest responsibilities as a pet parent is protecting your pet from harm. At Companion Animal Hospital Lake Zurich, we want you to be aware of the health risks your pet might face in their lifetime. To counter these risks and keep them safe, we recommend vaccinating your pet on a routine basis. Cat and dog vaccinations are designed to give your pet’s immunity a boost and offer extra protection against some common (and harmful) diseases.

START PROTECTING YOUR PET

If your pet has not had their vaccines yet this year or was just recently adopted, call (847) 438-3750 to make an appointment. We care about their safety, too, and want to see them live many more years at your side.

KEEPING DOGS AND CATS PROTECTED

The pet vaccinations we recommend most frequently for dogs and cats include:

DOG VACCINATIONS

  • Rabies
  • Distemper (DHPP combo)
  • Bordetella (kennel cough)
  • Canine Influenza (H3N2 and H3N8)
  • Leptospirosis
  • Lyme

CAT VACCINATIONS

  • Rabies
  • Feline distemper (FVRCP combo)
  • Leukemia (encouraged for outdoor cats)

CHOOSING THE BEST VACCINES FOR YOUR PET

While pet vaccine programs tend to vary, we consistently recommend rabies, distemper, leptospirosis and bordetella for dogs, and the rabies and distemper vaccination for cats.

These vaccines are widely considered “core” vaccines due to their importance. Rabies and distemper are extremely dangerous and in most cases, fatal.

Our “non-core” vaccines are geared towards protecting against diseases that, while not widely-occurring, may pose a higher risk in certain environments. For example, pets that are boarded have a higher risk of becoming infected with upper respiratory infections. Cats that spend time outdoors may be at a higher risk for leukemia. Knowing which diseases your pet may be more likely to encounter will help you decide which vaccines will be necessary for their health.

WORRIED ABOUT OVER-VACCINATING?

Pet parents are right to be concerned about over-vaccinating their companions. We understand that most (if not all) pets will not need every vaccine our hospital carries. Every pet has specific needs to counteract specific risks. Therefore, our veterinarians take time to help pet parents create custom vaccine programs that ensure protection only where it’s needed most. Call (847) 438-3750 if you have any questions or want more information about vaccinating your pet!
