ENSURING THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF SAFETY

To make surgery as safe as possible for your pet, there are several things we need to do before, during, and after their procedure.

Before

First, we need to check that your pet is able to metabolize the anesthetic they receive during surgery. A physical exam and blood work can confirm that your pet is healthy, or may show that surgery should be postponed until their health improves.

During

During surgery, pets receive IV fluids, pain relief medication, and antibiotics as needed to support their bodies and keep them comfortable. A technician monitors all of your pet’s major vitals, including blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and pulse oximetry.

After

After surgery, all pets are covered in warm blankets and monitored as they awaken from the anesthesia. We happily offer company and comfort to pets during this stage to reduce any stress or confusion they might experience. When your pet is fully awake and able to stand, walk, and eat and drink on their own, we’ll call you. At pick-up, you’ll receive printed instructions to guide you and your pet through their recovery.

KEEPING PAIN TO A MINIMUM

Along with the pain control your pet receives before and during surgery, they may also go home with oral medication. The less pain your pet has after surgery, the more quickly they can recover. We give pain control based on your pet’s health history, type of surgery, and any medications they’re taking.
