Dr. Lauren Peters, DVM

What is your educational and work background?

I received my Bachelor of Science in Dairy Science from Iowa State University. I received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign

Prior to vet school, I spent two years working as a veterinary assistance at a small animal emergency clinic. During that time, I discovered my passion for general practice, which ultimately led me to a position as a veterinary assistant here at Companion Animal.

What made you decide to become a vet?

I have the classic story that I have always wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as I can remember. I grew up surrounded by animals and always cherished the bond I shared with them. While in college, I took the opportunity to explore other careers, but nothing ever felt quite right. It wasn’t until I participated in a spay and neuter project in Costa Rica. That experience reaffirmed my passion for veterinary medicine.

Why did you decide to join the Companion team?

I first joined the Companion Animal team in June of 2023 as a veterinary assistant, and was immediately welcomed with open arms. I was deeply impressed by the level of medicine and compassionate care provided at this hospital, and quickly realized it was the perfect fit for me. I feel incredibly fortunate to have returned after graduation.
